Data Integration

Data Integration

Data-integration systems connect applications so information can move accurately, securely, and on schedule across the district technology ecosystem.

They may use application programming interfaces, event-based exchanges, managed pipelines, or scheduled extract-transform-load processes to reduce duplicate entry and keep systems aligned.

What these systems support

  • API, file, database, and event-based connections
  • Mapping, transformation, validation, and error handling
  • Scheduling, monitoring, lineage, security, and reconciliation

Note: SDLA does not endorse or resell any of the systems listed on this site.

Overview

Rostering software that connects student information system data to educational applications through OneRoster. ClassLink Roster Server manages scheduled data sharing, preprocessing, and vendor connections so schools can maintain consistent accounts and class rosters across learning tools.

Not to be confused with: ClassLink LaunchPad provides single sign-on; Roster Server provides roster data exchange.

Overview

CPSI provides education data integration, validation, identity, warehouse, and reporting software for districts and state education agencies. Its xDStudio platform collects information from multiple operational systems, transforms and validates it, resolves identities, and places it into operational stores or longitudinal data marts for reporting and exchange.

For districts, the platform addresses the recurring work of moving student, staff, and organizational data among SIS, directories, state-reporting systems, and other applications without relying entirely on manual entry or disconnected batch scripts. CPSI supports several education data standards, but much of its public product material is dated, so current product packaging and California support should be verified.

Overview

Edlink is a unified integration API for education technology companies. A vendor builds one connection to Edlink and can then exchange authorized data with many SIS, LMS, identity, and roster providers instead of developing and maintaining a separate connector for every platform used by schools.

Through those connections, an application can support functions such as single sign-on, rostering, coursework and content exchange, grade passback, attendance, and other available school data. Edlink is primarily infrastructure for edtech developers rather than a district-operated integration console, although school administrators authorize sources, configure sharing, and monitor the connections serving their applications.

Overview

Instructure Elevate Data Sync is an education interoperability platform that moves roster, student, staff, course, and learning information between student information systems and other applications. It replaces separate vendor-by-vendor integrations with centrally managed connections that understand common education standards and proprietary SIS formats.

Districts and application providers use it to automate recurring synchronization, monitor errors, map local fields, and support two-way workflows such as grade passback. The product was formerly Kimono and is now part of the Instructure platform; current Instructure documentation and service-status reporting continue to identify Elevate Data Sync as an operational product.

Overview

Level Data Integration Services is a managed K–12 interoperability offering that automates data movement between a district's SIS or HR system and the operational applications that depend on it. Typical connections provision directory accounts and keep food service, transportation, library, learning, assessment, and other systems synchronized without district staff maintaining a collection of fragile scripts.

Each implementation is configured around the district's source systems, destinations, business rules, and required direction of travel. Level Data operates and monitors the connectors, which can support one-way or bidirectional exchange, near-real-time updates, and both cloud and locally hosted systems.

Overview

Marcia Brenner Associates (MBA) develops plugins and provides professional services for PowerSchool SIS. Its products extend PowerSchool with specialized scheduling, attendance, behavior, reporting, fees, device management, data protection, summer-school, and other workflows, while its consulting services cover customization, training, and administrative support.

MBA can help a district connect or adapt PowerSchool data for particular projects, but it is not presented as a general-purpose data-integration platform. The company is active and relevant to districts using PowerSchool; the catalog record should be moved to a PowerSchool services, SIS extensions, or consulting category rather than retired.

Overview

Microsoft School Data Sync (SDS) is a Microsoft 365 Education service that imports organization, user, role, course, class, and enrollment data from a district's SIS or student-management system. It uses those records to establish education-specific identities and rosters for Microsoft Teams, Intune for Education, and other Microsoft 365 or compatible third-party experiences.

SDS eliminates much of the manual work of creating classes and keeping memberships current, but it is centered on the Microsoft 365 tenant rather than acting as a general-purpose district integration hub. Current implementations connect through supported OneRoster APIs or Microsoft CSV formats, with administrators responsible for mapping identities, monitoring synchronization health, and correcting source-data errors.

Overview

ReadWrite Digital Integrator is an integration-platform-as-a-service built for K–12 data and identity automation. It connects SIS and HR sources with directories, identity platforms, learning applications, device systems, assessment tools, and other district services so accounts, rosters, attributes, and operational data stay synchronized.

The platform replaces recurring exports, manual account maintenance, and fragile local scripts with hosted jobs, configurable district rules, change tracking, alerts, and safeguards. It can combine multiple source systems and support bidirectional workflows, making it particularly useful for complex provisioning, year-end transitions, and applications that are not fully served by a basic roster feed.

Overview

School Passport is the service name used in GG4L’s education data-exchange agreements and legacy integrations. GG4L now operates as SchoolDay, whose platform builds on that School Passport foundation.

The service connects approved district data sources and edtech applications, supporting governed data sharing, roster synchronization and application access according to the integration. Current SchoolDay subscriptions and documentation describe the available privacy and access controls.

The School Passport and SchoolDay names describe related product lineage. A historical School Passport record does not by itself prove that a district has adopted every newer SchoolDay feature.

Overview

Global Grid for Learning (GG4L) rebranded as SchoolDay in April 2025. The SchoolDay platform connects district data systems and approved edtech applications through governed data exchange, rostering and application-access services.

Current platform offerings include privacy governance, tokenized data exchange, monitoring and single sign-on. Features and premium services depend on the district’s deployment and subscription. The platform builds on the School Passport integration service; legacy agreements and connectors may retain that name.

Not to be confused with visitor check-in software or unrelated products named School-Day. SchoolDay’s principal role is education interoperability and data governance.
