AIM Buddy Project

Overview

Overview

The AIM Buddy Project is a supplemental social-emotional and character-development curriculum using characters from PBS's ARTHUR. Cross-grade student pairs work through interactive comics and games about empathy, honesty, forgiveness, generosity, and learning from others. Shared activities prompt discussion of feelings, perspectives, and problem solving. Cross-grade participation connects paired students with a shared activity. Teachers coordinate the pairing and discussion, using observation and student reflection as local evidence of the learning experience.

Features

AIM Program Goals

  • Engage students with interactive media and cross-grade buddy collaborations to stimulate in-the-moment discussions, questions and thoughtful reflections as they observe character’s feelings and behaviors, and explore different perspectives.
  • Encourage positive cross-grade peer relationships (grades 1 and 4; 2 and 5), cross- grade teacher relationships, and school-wide relationships.
  • Help students build skills and attitudes that enable them to think more critically and be more accountable for their actions and relations with others.

AIM Curriculum

  • The AIM Curriculum can be used to supplement existing SEL and character development programs or as a stand-alone set of resources. Each of the five units (empathy, honesty, forgiveness, generosity, and learning from others) features an online comic or game based on an ARTHUR episode, and is supported by various additional resources.
  • The comprehensive AIM Educator’s Guide serves as a roadmap to help step teachers through the planning, preparation, and implementation of 20 classroom sessions.
  • Five Educator Planning Videos are embedded in the
Educator’s Guide to offer added support and training.
  • The AIM Buddy Project Collection is available free of charge on PBS LearningMedia.
