Tinkercad
Overview

Tinkercad is Autodesk’s free browser-based design and simulation environment. Learners create 3D models, simulate circuits, code designs, and prepare files for fabrication or presentation. Schools use it for design, engineering, and introductory computing projects. A model or circuit links design decisions with revisions and a possible fabrication file. Teachers connect the artifact with engineering reasoning while managing account access and publication of student work.

Audience and instructional role
Grades / learners:
upper-elementary through high-school makers and designers
Primary users:
students, teachers, CTE staff, library/makerspace staff, and robotics programs
Learning focus:
3D design, circuits, coding, engineering design, and prototyping — Autodesk’s free browser-based design and simulation environment
How it supports learning
- Learners create 3D models, simulate circuits, code designs, and prepare files for fabrication or presentation.
- Teachers should connect use to explicit learning goals and inspect student work rather than rely on completion, time-on-task, or engagement alone.
Implementation and instructional decisions
- Establish class/account, sharing, moderation, 3D-printer, material, safety, accessibility, intellectual-property, and project-assessment practices.
- Districts should confirm accessibility, language support, student-data practices, assignment workflow, reporting, and the continuing role of teacher judgment.
