Grade-level boundary
| Grade group | SELA treatment | Operational caution |
|---|---|---|
| IN — Infant TD — Toddler PS — Prekindergarten AD — Adult | Do not submit a new SELA record | Do not change the grade merely to permit SELA |
| TK–12 and other currently permitted K–12 grade contexts | SELA may be required | Apply current ELPAC and CALPADS rules |
| Adult-grade student with inherited prior history | Existing history may remain | A first SELA record cannot simply be created under AD |
TK is not PS. Transitional kindergarten has current ELPAC participation and SELA requirements that should not be confused with prekindergarten or an older CELDT-era rule.
Recommended correction path
- 1
Confirm identity and enrollment
Match SSID, school, dates, and the overlapping SENR grade.
- 2
Verify the grade
Use the student’s actual instructional/enrollment record; check stale or incorrectly mapped values.
- 3
Choose the correct dependency action
If SENR is wrong, correct it first. If IN, TD, PS, or AD is accurate, remove the ineligible SELA transaction.
- 4
Handle TK deliberately
Consult current CDE guidance rather than treating TK as prekindergarten.
- 5
Regenerate a scoped file
Exclude ineligible rows and repair the export filter that produced them.
