SELA0215: ELAS Start Date Is in the Future
CALPADS cannot post an ELAS record whose effective date is later than the current system date. This often comes from a data-entry error, a pre-enrollment workflow, or a future-dated reclassification action.

Focus fields: ELAS Start Date (12.14)
Recommended correction path
- 1
Check today’s date and the submitted value
Rule out a transposed month/day, wrong year, default value, or SIS date-format conversion before changing the student record.
- 2
Identify the event the date represents
Match the date to the actual ELAS event: initial enrollment/identification, Initial ELPAC result, or approved reclassification. The date must describe an event that has already occurred.
- 3
Do not prematurely post a future action
If the planned event has not occurred, remove the future SELA transaction from the current file and place it in a monitored work queue for submission on or after the effective date.
- 4
Correct the authoritative source
Update the SIS or local EL-status table—not just the export file—so the same future date is not generated again.
- 5
Resubmit and verify
Post the corrected record, inspect the student’s ELAS timeline in CALPADS, and confirm that the date appears in chronological order.
Before closing the ticket
- Save the rejected-record details and the evidence used for the correction.
- Confirm the fix in CALPADS—not only in the SIS export preview.
- When ELPAC eligibility is affected, coordinate directly with the LEA ELPAC coordinator and verify TOMS after the normal data exchange.
