Writing by Design / Grading by Design is a K–8 writing curriculum and related assessment/grading approach. Teachers use modeled lessons, shared language, rubrics, student practice, conferencing, and feedback to develop writing across genres.
Writing samples and rubric judgments are the useful evidence around the curriculum. Teachers connect that work with learning goals and feedback, with the locally selected materials guiding the sequence. The adopted edition and implementation determine the available digital records. Curriculum teams and teachers coordinate materials, access, and the interpretation of locally assessed work.
