SINF0581: Missing Mailing Address ZIP Code
One or more mailing-address components are populated, but field 2.49 is blank. Confirm the student’s authorized mailing address, then complete the related address group or remove partial mailing data that should not have been submitted.
Official validation
If Mailing Address Line 1, Mailing Address City Name, or Mailing Address State Province Code is populated, Mailing Address ZIP Code must be populated.
- 2.45 — Mailing Address Line 1
- 2.46 — Mailing Address Line 2
- 2.47 — Mailing Address City Name
- 2.48 — Mailing Address State Province Code
- 2.49 — Mailing Address ZIP Code
- Severity: Fatal
- Type: Input Validation
Only the five-digit ZIP Code is required; field 2.49 can also carry an applicable four-digit extension under the current specification.
Resolve the whole mailing-address group
A mailing address should be reported
Authorized student records support a mailing address for the effective period.
Action: Verify the complete address and populate the supported ZIP Code with the related mailing components.
The mailing fields were populated accidentally
A default, copy-forward, integration, or partial update created mailing components that should not be submitted.
Action: Remove the unsupported partial mailing values through the local address workflow; do not invent a ZIP Code.
Trace the incomplete address
- Effective-dated record: confirm the correct SINF record, Effective Start Date, student, and address period.
- Authorized source: compare registration, household, parent or guardian, address-change, and returned-mail records according to local policy.
- Residential versus mailing: determine whether the student has a distinct mailing address and which address the local SINF process is designed to report.
- Source system: check whether the ZIP Code is blank, stored in another field, rejected by local validation, or missing only from the extract.
- Integration behavior: inspect same-as-residential logic, partial updates, address precedence, ZIP-plus-four parsing, field length, and leading-zero preservation.
Recommended resolution
Preserve the rejected transaction
Capture the submission ID, SSID, Effective Start Date, raw SINF row, and exact values transmitted in fields 2.45 through 2.49.
Confirm the intended address period
Match the row to the correct student and effective-dated address record before changing current or historical data.
Verify the mailing address
Use an authorized local source to establish Address Line 1, City, State or Province, and ZIP Code. Treat Address Line 2 as optional unless populated.
Complete or remove the address group
Populate the supported ZIP Code when the mailing address is valid, or clear partial mailing fields that were introduced without a reportable mailing address.
Correct the authoritative source
Update the household or mailing-address record in the owning SIS according to local authorization and address-history procedures.
Repair shared extraction logic
If the source is complete, fix same-as-residential handling, address precedence, partial-update logic, ZIP parsing, or field mapping that omitted 2.49.
Regenerate and inspect
Confirm the complete mailing-address group appears on the correct SINF effective date and that any leading zero or ZIP extension is preserved.
Submit and verify
Confirm SINF0581 clears and CALPADS displays the intended effective-dated address without overwriting supported history.
Review the affected population
Check other students sharing the same address import, household workflow, same-as-residential setting, ZIP transformation, or extract rule.
Close only after verification
- The reported mailing address is supported by an authorized source for the effective period.
- Fields 2.45, 2.47, 2.48, and 2.49 form a complete address when mailing data is submitted.
- No residential, school, prior, or default ZIP Code was substituted without evidence.
- The source system, regenerated SINF row, and accepted CALPADS record agree.
- Other records sharing the address workflow or extract have been reviewed.
