Choose the diagnostic pathway
- Parent and guardian information
- Is Parent/Guardian 1 complete before Parent/Guardian 2 is reported?
- Are required names and education-level fields complete as a group?
- Is education level based on supplied information?
- Do privacy or safety circumstances affect whether information should be submitted?
- Student identity and SSID alignment
- Is this the intended student and current SSID?
- Do legal name, birth date, and gender agree with authoritative information?
- Does the latest CALPADS SINF record describe the same student?
- Effective dates and enrollment ownership
- Which SENR primary enrollment establishes ownership?
- Does the SINF effective range overlap that enrollment?
- Did a later LEA enrollment end the maintenance period?
- Is short-term enrollment being mistaken for SINF ownership?
- Race, ethnicity, and birth information
- Were values reported from authorized source information rather than inferred?
- Are missing indicators consistent with race and ethnicity fields?
- Do birth country and state/province form a valid combination?
- Residential and mailing addresses
- Is every required residential-address component present?
- If a mailing address is supplied, is it complete?
- Did the SIS extract mix residential and mailing fields?
- Initial U.S. School Enrollment Date
- Does the date represent first K–12 entry in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico?
- Was preschool entry mistakenly used?
- Does the date align with age, enrollment, SELA, LTEL, and assessment context?
- SIS, extract, and CALPADS history
- What does the authoritative SIS contain?
- Did the extract transform, omit, or default a value?
- Which effective SINF record does CALPADS use?
- Will the next extract reproduce the error?

Recommended correction path
Identify the exact student and effective record
Match SSID, Reporting LEA, effective dates, and the submitted SINF transaction.
Return to authoritative source information
Establish the supported identity, demographic, guardian, address, or school-entry value. Do not infer missing information.
Compare the complete SINF history
Determine which effective record CALPADS uses for the relevant enrollment or event date.
Review every field in the rule
Evaluate the validated fields as a related group and use current CALPADS definitions and code values.
Correct the owning system
Repair the authorized SIS record or extract mapping so the next submission will remain correct.
Verify acceptance and downstream meaning
Confirm the intended SINF record and review SENR, SPRG, SELA, assessment, accountability, and special-education effects.
Official CALPADS guidance
1) Verify that data is provided in the submission for Guardian 2 First Name and Guardian 2 Last Name fields.
OR
2) If the data for Guardian 2 First Name and Guardian 2 Last Name is unknown, do not submit any data for any of the two fields. All two fields must either be NULL or all must be populated.
Before closing the issue
- Confirm SINF0635 no longer appears for the intended effective record.
- Verify the correct SINF record controls the relevant enrollment or event date.
- Document source evidence, correction owner, SIS field, and extract behavior.
- Review SENR, SPRG, SELA, assessment, accountability, and special-education effects as applicable.
