Suggested resolution
SELA0524: Invalid Adult English Learner (ADEL) Status
CALPADS permits ADEL only for a student who is at least 22 years old and enrolled in TK–12. This error means the student’s age, grade, or ELAS code conflicts with that rule.
Focus fields: Birth Date (2.18), Grade Level (1.24), ELAS Code (12.13), and ELAS Start Date (12.14)
Recommended correction path
- 1
Verify identity and birth date
Confirm the SSID and compare the SIS birth date with authoritative enrollment documentation. Do not change a birth date merely to satisfy the ADEL rule.
- 2
Verify the overlapping enrollment grade
Confirm that the student is enrolled in TK–12 for the relevant date. Check for stale, adult-education, or incorrectly mapped grade values.
- 3
Determine the correct language status
If the student is younger than 22 and the demographic/enrollment data are correct, ADEL is not appropriate. Establish the supported ELAS from the student’s statewide history and evidence.
- 4
Correct the authoritative source
Repair the SIS demographic, enrollment, or ELAS value that is actually wrong; then regenerate the dependent CALPADS records in the proper order.
- 5
Verify the complete result
Confirm the SENR and SELA records agree in CALPADS and that the student’s services and any applicable assessment eligibility remain correct.
Before closing the ticket
- Preserve the evidence and approval supporting the correction.
- Verify the result in CALPADS, not only the SIS.
- When testing or RFEP is affected, reconcile TOMS and the assessment team’s roster.
