EL and IFEP should not be included as routine additions in a SELA batch file.
Current correction matrix
| Correction | Current reason | Required meaning |
|---|---|---|
| EO → TBD | 1 — Evidence of Non-English Primary Language | Supported evidence shows the student requires an initial determination |
| EL → EO or IFEP → EO | 4 — Ineligible Student Tested | Administrative error caused an ineligible student to be assessed |
| EL → IFEP or IFEP → EL | 5 — Evidence for EL or IFEP | Required review supports correction of the initial classification |
Current-document warning: The SELA0520 troubleshooting page still mentions Code 2. Current SELA guidance identifies Code 2 as retired and directs users to Code 5 where applicable. Always use the current maintenance matrix.
Wait for the authoritative TOMS exchange before creating a correction. Once all four initial-assessment domains and scores are complete, TOMS normally sends EL or IFEP to CALPADS overnight; the data exchange may require additional processing time.
Recommended correction path
- 1
Identify who should create the status
Determine whether Initial ELPAC/Alternate ELPAC testing is complete and TOMS is expected to send the result.
- 2
Check both systems
Match student, SSID, test completion, result, current ELAS, and dates in TOMS and CALPADS. Do not create a competing batch record while exchange is pending.
- 3
Establish a true correction
Use the Home Language Survey, assessment evidence, parent/guardian consultation, classroom performance, and certificated-staff review required by the applicable process.
- 4
Use online maintenance
Select only the currently permitted Code 1, 4, or 5 for the supported transition. Correction opportunities are time-limited and generally must precede summative testing.
- 5
Keep EL/IFEP out of routine batches
Adjust the SIS export so locally stored TOMS results are not resubmitted as ordinary SELA additions.
- 6
Verify one authoritative result
Confirm CALPADS history, TOMS eligibility, local services, and the SIS all agree.
