SELA0283: Date Mismatch for an Existing ELAS Code

CALPADS already has this ELAS code for the student, but the submitted start date differs. With the exception described for TBD, CALPADS maintains one record for a given status across LEAs.

Recommended correction path

  1. 1

    Locate the matching ODS status

    Inspect the complete SELA history and find the existing occurrence of the submitted ELAS code. Record its start date and reporting LEA.

    Compare authoritative documents

    Check the Home Language Survey, Initial ELPAC result, or reclassification record to determine which date is correct. A later enrollment at your LEA does not restart the statewide ELAS date.

    Use the existing date when it is correct

    Update the SIS or export mapping to preserve the CALPADS start date and prevent recurring mismatches on future submissions.

    Escalate an incorrect owned record

    Only the appropriate record owner can correct some historical values. Coordinate with the reporting LEA or CALPADS Support rather than creating a duplicate status.

    Resubmit and verify continuity

    Confirm the accepted record leaves one accurate ELAS occurrence and that the student’s current status remains intact.

Before closing the ticket

  • Save the rejected-record details and the evidence used for the correction.
  • Confirm the fix in CALPADS—not only in the SIS export preview.
  • When ELPAC eligibility is affected, coordinate directly with the LEA ELPAC coordinator and verify TOMS after the normal data exchange.
