- 12.07 SSID
An SSID is the statewide student identifier—not a local student number, state testing identifier, or identifier created by another LEA.
Common causes
| Cause | Evidence | Correction direction |
|---|---|---|
| Local ID exported | Value matches the SIS student number | Map the accepted CALPADS SSID |
| Digit lost or transformed | Spreadsheet notation, decimal, or shortened value | Preserve the ten-digit identifier as text |
| Student has another SSID | Identity search finds a different statewide record | Reconcile identity; do not create another SSID casually |
| SENR prerequisite not completed | No valid student/enrollment history for the LEA | Resolve SSID acquisition and SENR first |
| Wrong student selected | Name, birth date, or gender does not match | Stop before attaching ELAS history to the wrong person |
Treat this as identity reconciliation, not a typographical inconvenience. Assigning language status to the wrong SSID can corrupt two students’ histories and affect assessment, services, and reporting.
Recommended correction path
- 1
Preserve the rejected row
Record the SSID and accompanying legal name, birth date, gender, school, and Reporting LEA.
- 2
Search CALPADS carefully
Use authorized identity search and compare multiple identifiers—not name alone.
- 3
Reconcile SENR and SIS
Confirm the correct accepted SSID and enrollment ownership; resolve duplicate-SSID issues through the established process.
- 4
Update the local master record
Correct the SIS SSID so all future SELA and other extracts use the same identity.
- 5
Review language history before posting
Make sure the ELAS code, start date, and primary language belong to the reconciled student.
