CALPADS rule: If Student School Completion Status Code equals 100, Student Exit Reason Code must equal E230.

Severity: Fatal   Type: Input Validation

Fields validated:

  • 1.26 Student Exit Reason Code
  • 1.27 Student School Completion Status Code

The correction is a factual two-way decision. If the student earned a standard high school diploma, retain 100 and use E230. If the student did not earn that diploma, replace 100 with the actual supported outcome—or leave Completion Status blank when this was not a completion event.

What commonly produces SENR0175

  • A graduation status was added without changing the earlier transfer or year-end Exit Reason.
  • The SIS stores completion and withdrawal information in separate screens that did not synchronize.
  • A bulk graduation process defaulted all anticipated graduates to 100.
  • The extract joined Exit Reason and Completion Status from different enrollment segments.
  • A manual CALPADS correction was not made in the authoritative SIS.

Recommended correction path

  1. Preserve the rejected row

Capture the submission ID, SSID, enrollment key, Exit Date, and fields 1.26–1.27.

  2. Confirm the intended enrollment

Match the row to the correct student and enrollment segment.

  3. Verify diploma status

Use the final transcript, graduation audit, and diploma record.

  4. Verify the exit event

Determine whether the student completed, transferred, continued, or exited for another reason.

  5. Align the two fields

Use E230 + 100 for a supported standard-diploma graduate; otherwise report the actual outcome.

  6. Check connected fields

Verify Grade Level, Exit Date, UC/CSU Indicator, and surrounding enrollment history.

  7. Correct the owning system

Repair the SIS event, local crosswalk, segment join, or extract mapping.

  8. Submit and verify

Confirm SENR0175 clears and CALPADS displays the intended completion.

  9. Review similar graduates

Find other status-100 records using a non-E230 Exit Reason.

Before closing the issue

  • Confirm the student actually earned a standard diploma.
  • Verify E230 and 100 describe the same enrollment event.
  • Ensure Exit Date and Grade Level support the completion.
  • Confirm the SIS and next extract reproduce the accepted combination.
