"This app seems to give you a lot of potential insights about what's going on in the building because everyone can be an information agent," J.I. Burton High School math teacher Robert Fultz said.
The app is called Crisis Go and teachers have it on their phones or tablets. If necessary, in the case of an active shooter or even a fight in the hall, it would tell teachers what to do to keep students safe without a criminal knowing. It also alerts every school in the city, as well as local police about the situation.
"If we can react to a crisis situation in a better time frame, we can hopefully save lives and keep our students as safe as possible," Norton City Schools Superintendent Keith Perrigan said.
The app also improves communication. Think of it as a group text for all employees.
"We as a person in the classroom know more because of the app," Fultz said. "Then we will be able to give more information to other people."
Norton City Schools will be testing the new technology during their next fire drill. The app is being implemented to make sure school leaders are following their main goal.
"One of our main priorities is to make sure that our students learn," Perrigan said. "But more importantly than that we've got to make sure that our students are safe first."
