What this error actually means

This is the date employment with the Reporting LEA began—not the SDEM Effective Start Date, first day in education, credential issuance date, or file date. CALPADS permits limited advance reporting but rejects dates too far ahead.

   Preserve the rejected evidence

   Capture the submission, row, field values, Reporting LEA, masked SEID, effective dates, and related SASS/CRSE identifiers before editing.

   Confirm the person and business key

   Use authorized evidence to match the educator, Reporting LEA, SEID, and effective period. Do not include SSNs in ordinary working notes.

   Test the exact rule

   • Calculate six months from the actual submission date.
   • Verify the signed/authorized employment start with HR.
   • Separate 7.28 employment start from 7.04 SDEM effective start.
   • Check future hires, rescinded offers, rollover defaults, and year transpositions.

   Find the first divergence

   Determine whether the problem began in authorized personnel evidence, HR/SIS entry, a local crosswalk, an integration, file generation, or CALPADS history.

   Make the supported correction

   Correct an inaccurate employment date now, or wait until a genuine future start falls within the permitted reporting window. Do not backdate the employment relationship.

   Regenerate and reconcile

   Confirm the accepted SDEM history under the intended Reporting LEA and SEID. Review Report 4.4 and applicable Reports 4.1–4.5, then inspect other staff affected by the same mapping or workflow.
