What this assignment error means
CALPADS permits values greater than 100 in some local staffing circumstances, but rejects 200 or more. Large values often indicate duplicated positions, summed records, or a decimal-to-percent conversion applied twice.
Valid, invalid, and unsafe responses
| Situation | Value or condition | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Valid under this range rule | 100 | A full assignment in this classification. |
| Range permits further review | 150 | Below 200, but still verify that HR evidence supports it. |
| Invalid boundary | 200 | The rule requires less than 200. |
| Common defect | 5000 from 50 × 100 | An export conversion was applied incorrectly. |

Recommended correction path
- 1
Locate the exact SASS row
Capture Reporting LEA, School of Assignment, Academic Year, masked SEID, Job Classification, FTE, and all seven support-assignment fields.
- 2
Confirm the educator and organization
Match the SASS row to accepted SDEM history, HR/position-control evidence, the official school/LEA code, and the actual assignment.
- 3
Test the exact rule
- Compare 8.14 with position-control and payroll FTE.
- Determine whether multiple positions in the same job classification were summed correctly.
- Check duplicate joins and repeated assignment records.
- Review all job classifications for the SEID before changing the total.
- 4
Find the first divergence
Inspect HR, position control, SIS scheduling, local code crosswalks, joins, and export calculations. Do not treat a job title as a CALPADS classification without checking duties.
- 5
Make the supported correction
Correct the source FTE calculation, duplication, or mapping. Do not cap a value at 199 merely to pass validation.
- 6
Regenerate and reconcile
Confirm SASS acceptance, inspect Staff Profile Report 4.4 and Staff Nonclassroom Based or Support Assignment Detail Report 4.5, and reconcile affected CRSE sections and other staff produced by the same mapping.
