Identity must be reported—not inferred
Do not infer race or Hispanic/Latino ethnicity from a student's name, appearance, language, birthplace, address, siblings or a staff assumption. Today's families contain every imaginable combination of characteristics.
Intellectual humility recognizes what staff do not know. Thoroughness means locating the authorized response, preserving multiple reported race selections when applicable, and using missing indicators only according to current CALPADS rules.

Understanding the Error: Student Ethnicity data is not accurately populated based on Student Hispanic Ethnicity Indicator for enrollments where enrollment status = 10 (primary), 30 (short-term), and 50 (non-ADA). Suggested Resolution: 1) If Student Hispanic Ethnicity Indicator is blank, Student Ethnicity Missing Indicator must be populated with a "Y." OR 1) If Student Hispanic Ethnicity Indicator is "Y" or "N", Student Ethnicity Missing Indicator must be populated with a "N."
