Okta Workforce Identity is a cloud identity platform for single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, user directories, lifecycle management, workflows, access governance, and privileged access. Educational institutions can use it to give students and employees one secure identity across learning, productivity, administrative, and locally developed applications.
Source records establish identity and role, while application permissions determine the resulting access. District HR, student-data, application, and IT owners coordinate those boundaries throughout account creation, change, and removal. An account, an application permission, and a class membership are different relationships. Their source, timing, and approval determine what a person can actually do after signing in.
A transfer, departure, or duplicate identity can affect several applications at once. District teams coordinate matching, authorization, update timing, and exceptions across the deployed connections. Sign-in, account creation, and roster sharing are related processes with different purposes; understanding each boundary helps explain why access may succeed in one service and fail in another.

- K–12 districts should verify direct SIS, guardian, young-student login, class rostering, and app-data-sharing requirements; Okta's education positioning is strongest in higher education.
