What this assignment error means
SASS reports staff assignments for the applicable public educational organization. NPS and private-school-group identifiers serve different reporting relationships and are not valid SASS schools of assignment.
Valid, invalid, and unsafe responses
| Situation | Value or condition | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Valid approach | Supported public school or permitted LEA-level assignment | Use the organization that owns the reportable assignment. |
| Invalid | NPS CDS in 8.05 | Do not report the NPS as the SASS school. |
| Invalid | Private School Group code | This is not a public SASS assignment location. |
| Investigate | District employee serves students placed at an NPS | Report the employee under the appropriate public LEA/school relationship. |
Fields and records evaluated
- 8.05 School of Assignment
Recommended correction path
- 1
Locate the exact SASS row
Capture Reporting LEA, School of Assignment, Academic Year, masked SEID, Job Classification, FTE, and all seven support-assignment fields.
- 2
Confirm the educator and organization
Match the SASS row to accepted SDEM history, HR/position-control evidence, the official school/LEA code, and the actual assignment.
- 3
Test the exact rule
- Identify the staff member’s employer and reportable assignment owner.
- Resolve the submitted CDS code and school type.
- Distinguish an NPS placement/service location from the public LEA assignment.
- Coordinate HR, special education, and CALPADS staff when the service arrangement is complex.
- 4
Find the first divergence
Inspect HR, position control, SIS scheduling, local code crosswalks, joins, and export calculations. Do not treat a job title as a CALPADS classification without checking duties.
- 5
Make the supported correction
Replace an invalid NPS/private-school-group code with the supported public assignment organization, or remove a SASS row that the LEA should not report.
- 6
Regenerate and reconcile
Confirm SASS acceptance, inspect Staff Profile Report 4.4 and Staff Nonclassroom Based or Support Assignment Detail Report 4.5, and reconcile affected CRSE sections and other staff produced by the same mapping.
