Two membership relationships

MembershipEnrollment relationshipPractical test
ParticipatingMembership Start and End Dates must fall within the SENR enrollment range at that school. The student participates while enrolled at the reporting school; an open participation may be submitted after exit only when the dates remain supported.
EligibleThe SPRG range must overlap a SENR record at the school; an exited eligibility record must end on or before the SENR Exit Date.Eligibility can begin outside enrollment for applicable programs, but the reported range must intersect the supporting enrollment.

Fields: 3.05 School; 3.14 Membership Code/context; 3.15 Start; 3.16 End. Version 18 notes that submitted 3.14 is no longer stored/validated and CALPADS defaults membership category from valid program combinations; use the category applicable to the program.

Do not bend program dates around an incorrect enrollment. Determine whether SENR or SPRG is factually wrong and correct the owning record first.

What commonly causes GERR0005

  • SENR row rejected or never posted.
  • Wrong SSID, Reporting LEA, or School in either file.
  • SPRG begins after the student exited or ends before enrollment began.
  • Program data uses district-entry dates while SPRG is school-specific.
  • A later enrollment exists locally but is missing from CALPADS.
  • Eligible and Participating date rules were treated as identical.

Recommended correction path

  1. 1

    Preserve both histories

Capture raw SENR/SPRG rows, SSID, school, program, and all dates.

  2. 2

    Verify SENR actually posted

Confirm the ODS shows the intended student and school enrollment.

  3. 3

    Classify the program relationship

Apply the program’s derived Eligible or Participating rule.

  4. 4

    Verify program events

Establish actual membership start/end from the program owner.

  5. 5

    Correct the wrong history

Post accurate SENR first, then repair SPRG dates, school, or SSID as supported.

  6. 6

    Verify and audit

Confirm both ODS histories and inspect peers affected by the same extract logic.
