Recommended correction path

  1. 1

    Preserve the rejected row

Count fields and characters without opening and resaving the file in software that may transform identifiers or dates.

  2. 2

    Compare field by field

Use the current SELA layout to locate the first value whose length differs from the specification.

  3. 3

    Verify the underlying fact

Confirm identity fields against SINF/SENR and language fields against the Home Language Survey, assessment, and ELAS history.

  4. 4

    Repair the generator

Correct the SIS field, crosswalk, padding rule, or vendor extract—not only the upload copy.

  5. 5

    Retest similar rows

Generate a fresh SELA file and audit every record using the same mapping.
