Suggested resolution
SINC0501: Invalid Statutory Offense Indicator
When an interim alternative-setting reason is 1 or 2, or the Student Instructional Support Indicator is populated, CALPADS requires the Statutory Offense Indicator to be Y.
Focus fields: Statutory Offense Indicator (18.15), Instructional Support Indicator (18.16), and Interim Alternative Setting Reason (18.17)
Recommended correction path
- 1
Review the complete incident—not one field
Compare the behavior record, offense findings, services/supports, removal decision, and special-education documentation.
- 2
Confirm whether the statutory indicator should be Y
If either dependent field legitimately applies, set the statutory indicator according to current CALPADS definitions rather than suppressing the dependent data.
- 3
Check for an incorrectly populated dependent field
A default Y, stale removal reason, or poorly mapped blank can trigger the rule even when the incident was not statutory.
- 4
Coordinate across teams
Discipline, special education, and CALPADS staff should resolve conflicting source documents before changing the export.
- 5
Correct and validate the full chain
Update the authoritative behavior system, regenerate all related files, and confirm SINC, SIRS, and SOFF describe one coherent incident.
Systems opportunity
If discipline information is being reconstructed manually, review SDLA’s behavior management systems. A well-configured source system should preserve the incident, students, offenses, results, dates, identifiers, and supports as one auditable event.
