Grades are not syncing

Confirm that the assignment is linked to the correct course, grading period, and gradebook category.

Grades entered in the Learning Management System (LMS) are not appearing in the gradebook. How do I troubleshoot the sync?

Quick Fix

Troubleshoot one assignment before retrying a full grade transfer. Repeated bulk sync attempts can create duplicate entries or make the original mapping problem harder to identify.

Review the assignment setup

  • Confirm the assignment belongs to the correct LMS course, official section, and grading period.
  • Check that the LMS assignment is connected to the intended gradebook category or column.
  • Review due dates, point values, grading type, and any setting that controls whether scores are sent.
  • Look for unmatched students, inactive enrollments, or students appearing under different identifiers.
  • Open the LMS or gradebook sync report and save the exact error message.

Test carefully

Use one low-risk assignment or one affected student to test the corrected mapping. Confirm the score appears in the intended gradebook location before syncing additional records.

If support is needed, include:
  • The LMS course and section IDs.
  • The assignment title and grading period.
  • The gradebook category or destination column.
  • The affected student or roster scope.
  • The saved sync error and the time of the most recent attempt.

Keep in mind: Avoid repeated bulk sync attempts until the mapping error is understood; duplicates or overwritten grades may result.
