Accelerated Reader Says the Student Cannot Quiz Outside Last School Year’s Dates

Check the school’s Accelerated Reader date restriction and route outdated settings to an authorized administrator.

Teacher

My student is ready to take an Accelerated Reader quiz, but the message says quizzing is only allowed during dates from last school year. How do I fix it?

Quick Fix

This is usually a school-level date restriction, not a problem with the student’s book or account. Accelerated Reader date settings can remain in place from one school year to the next and should be reviewed when a new year begins.

The permitted dates ended last school yearThe restriction is outdated. An authorized school or district administrator needs to update the approved quizzing window.

The permitted dates include todayCheck the other displayed restrictions, including the allowed hours and weekend setting, and confirm that you are viewing the correct school.

Verify the restriction before changing anything else.

  1. Confirm the exact message

Make sure the message refers to dates from the previous school year. A message about book level, interest level, a quiz retake, or a locked account has a different cause.

  2. Open the Accelerated Reader preference

From the Renaissance Home page or Renaissance Next, select your initials or user icon, choose Edit Preferences, expand School Preferences if needed, and select Dates and Times for Accelerated Reader.

  3. Review the correct school’s settings

Check the allowed start and end dates. Also note any limits on weekends or hours. Teachers can view these settings with standard permissions, while school and district administrators can change them.

  4. Update or escalate, then retest

If you are authorized to change the school preference, enter the approved current-year date range and save it. Otherwise, send the outdated dates to your Renaissance administrator. After the setting is corrected, have the student sign in again and reopen the quiz.

If the student needs to quiz before the dates are updated

If your school allows date-and-time overrides and the prompt offers one, an authorized quiz monitor may use the class monitor password for the supervised attempt. Do not disclose or enter the monitor password where students can see or reuse it.
