SDLA Quick Fix · Nearpod

Students Cannot Join My Nearpod Lesson

Confirm the active session and join method, test one student device, and separate a lesson-code problem from a school-network problem.

Teacher

My Nearpod lesson is open, but students cannot join. Some see an invalid code, a sign-in screen, or a blank page.

Quick Fix

First, leave the session open. Do not end it while students are retrying. Display both the current join code and the direct lesson link so students have two approved ways to enter the same session.

Follow these steps in order.

  1. Confirm that the session is active

Check the code shown in the teacher session. If you relaunched the lesson, replace any older code or link that students may still be using.

  2. Use the district-approved join path

If your district uses student accounts, SSO, Clever, ClassLink, or an LMS, have students begin there and use their school credentials. Otherwise, direct students to nearpod.com/student (opens in a new tab) and enter the current code.

  3. Test one student device

Refresh the page, close duplicate Nearpod tabs, and retry the direct link. If one student can join, compare the affected student's URL, account, browser, and network with the working device.

  4. Check the session limit

If students joined earlier but later students cannot enter, check the student-join limit for the teacher's Nearpod license. Do not remove active students unless your local procedure calls for it.

  5. Separate a local problem from a network problem

If no student device on school Wi-Fi can join, check the Nearpod status page (opens in a new tab). If Nearpod is operational, send the evidence below to local IT.

Copy-and-paste message for local support

Students cannot join my active Nearpod lesson. The problem began at [time] on [school/network]. We tried the current code and direct link on [number] student devices using [browser/app]. Students see [exact message or blank screen]. The teacher device [can/cannot] load the session, and Nearpod's status page shows [status]. Please check filtering, network access, and our Nearpod/SSO configuration.

Stop and escalate when

The current code and direct link fail on multiple student devices, the required school sign-in loops, or the problem affects an entire class. Include the exact error, time, device/browser, network, and a screenshot that does not expose student information.
