SDLA Quick Fix · Nearpod

My Nearpod Lesson Is Lagging or Disconnecting

Stabilize the class session, reduce simultaneous retries, compare affected devices, and give IT the evidence needed to distinguish congestion from a service outage.

Teacher

My Nearpod lesson is delayed, students keep disconnecting, or responses arrive long after students submit them.

Quick Fix

First, switch to your short backup plan. Pause rapid slide changes and tell students whether to remain on the current screen, respond on paper, or continue with a non-Nearpod activity. A controlled pause gives you cleaner evidence than a class-wide cycle of refreshing and rejoining.

Follow these steps in order.

  1. Count the scope

Determine whether the issue affects one student, one part of the room, the whole class, or the teacher too. Note whether other websites are also slow.

  2. Stabilize one test device

Close duplicate Nearpod tabs and other unnecessary streaming media on one affected device, then refresh or rejoin once. Do not have every student repeat the test at the same time.

  3. Record the pattern

Note the time, room, access point or network if known, class size, lesson/activity, affected device types, and whether delay begins during video or another high-demand activity.

  4. Check Nearpod's status

Open the Nearpod status page (opens in a new tab). A reported content-delivery or login incident may explain a broad failure; an operational status does not rule out local congestion.

  5. Send local IT the classroom evidence

If the problem repeats or affects many devices, ask IT to review wireless capacity, latency, filtering, and the number of concurrent connections in the room. Let IT use the district's approved network tools rather than running unapproved speed tests on student devices.

Copy-and-paste message for local IT

Nearpod lagged or disconnected during [lesson/activity] in [room] at [time]. Approximately [number] of [class size] devices were affected, including [device/browser types]. The teacher device [was/was not] affected, other sites [were/were not] slow, and Nearpod's status page showed [status]. The issue was most visible during [video/activity/slide change]. Please review wireless capacity, latency, filtering, and concurrent connections for this location and time.

Stop and escalate when

Most of the class disconnects, the teacher device also loses the session, the problem repeats in the same room or time period, or other online tools are slow. If the lesson is time-sensitive, use the backup activity and preserve the details for follow-up.
