A Flocabulary Video Will Not Play or Keeps Buffering

Test the browser, device, and school network in order so support can identify where Flocabulary video playback is failing.

Teacher

My Flocabulary video stays blank, will not start, or pauses repeatedly to buffer.

Quick Fix

First, keep the lesson moving. Pause repeated class-wide reloads and switch briefly to your backup discussion, transcript, or offline activity while you test one device.

Follow these steps in order.

  1. Restart the browser

Close the browser completely, reopen it, sign back in through the district-approved path, and retry the same video. Close unnecessary streaming tabs and applications on the test device.

  2. Clear site data only if needed

If reopening does not help, clear the browser cache and cookies according to local guidance, then sign in and retry. Clearing cookies can sign you out of school services, so do not broaden the deletion beyond what your district recommends.

  3. Try another supported browser

Use another district-supported, up-to-date browser on the same device. If the video works there, record the name and version of the browser that failed.

  4. Try another school device

Open the same video on a second approved device using the same school network. Success on the second device points toward a device problem; failure on multiple devices points toward the network or service.

  5. Escalate a network-wide failure

If multiple devices fail, note the room, network, time, video URL, and whether the problem changes outside peak-use periods. Ask IT to review filtering, wireless capacity, and Flocabulary's current network requirements.

Copy-and-paste message for local IT

Flocabulary video [title or URL] would not play or repeatedly buffered in [room] at [time]. We tested [browser/version], a second approved browser, and [number] school devices on [network]. The result was [result]. Please review wireless capacity, filtering, and access to flocabulary.com and flocabulary.s3.amazonaws.com using Flocabulary's current technical guidance.

Stop and escalate when

The same video fails in multiple supported browsers or on multiple school devices, several classrooms report buffering, or playback changes by location or time of day. Firewall, filtering, and bandwidth changes belong to authorized IT staff.
