Rule: A student may have only one open NSLP program record.

  • 3.13 Education Program Code
  • 3.15 Education Program Membership Start Date
  • 3.16 Education Program Membership End Date

What “open” means

An open record has no membership end date. The error commonly appears when a new annual or changed eligibility record is added while an earlier 181 or 182 record remains open, or when both codes are open at the same time.

Do not close an old record with an invented date. Use approved eligibility documentation and current CALPADS guidance to reconstruct when each annual status began and ended.

Recommended correction path

  1. 1

    Open the complete history

Review both 181 and 182 records in CALPADS ODS, not only the rejected upload row.

  2. 2

    Compare authoritative evidence

Work with authorized nutrition/benefits staff to confirm annual determination, source, effective date, and any change in status.

  3. 3

    Separate reporting processes

Determine whether the status comes from an LEA-created SPRG record, direct certification/state match, or another approved process. Avoid duplicating an authoritative match.

  4. 4

    Correct the sequence

End, change, or remove only the inaccurate record so that one supported status is open for the applicable period.

  5. 5

    Repair and reconcile

Correct the nutrition-to-SIS/export workflow, resubmit, and review related Fall 1 and LCFF reports as applicable.
