Rule: California Partnership Academy ID must be a valid identifier for an official California Partnership Academy.

  • 3.13 Education Program Code
  • 3.19 California Partnership Academy ID

What CALPADS is trying to identify

A California Partnership Academy is a state program generally serving grades 10–12 through a “school-within-a-school” model that integrates academic and career-technical education, employer and postsecondary partnerships, mentoring, and work-based learning. Not every locally named academy or pathway is an official CPA.

The value in field 3.19 identifies the specific academy. It is not the school CDS code, the CTE pathway code, the local academy name, a grant number, or program code 113.

Common invalid substitutions

Submitted valueWhy it failsWhat belongs in field 3.19
School CDS codeIdentifies a school, not an academyThe academy’s five-character state ID
113Identifies the program typeThe specific academy ID; keep 113 in field 3.13
Health AcademyA name is not the state identifierThe ID listed for that academy
Locally assigned pathway codeMay be meaningful only inside the SISThe verified CDE-issued academy ID

Treat the ID as text. A spreadsheet or export process can remove a leading zero or alter the value. Compare all five characters with the current CDE directory; do not “repair” it by guessing.

Recommended correction path

  1. 1

    Confirm official CPA status

Verify that the local program is an official California Partnership Academy and that the student participates in that academy.

  2. 2

    Find the current identifier

Locate the academy in the current CDE directory. Match the academy name and school carefully, especially when an LEA operates several academies.

  3. 3

    Compare character by character

Look for a transposition, missing leading zero, extra space, stale identifier, or an ID belonging to another school or academy.

  4. 4

Correct the source—not just the file

Update the SIS program record or academy crosswalk so future extracts reproduce the verified five-character value.

  5. 5

    Resolve uncertain status

If the academy cannot be located or its status has changed, consult the academy coordinator and CDE program information before resubmitting. Do not substitute a nearby academy’s ID.

  6. 6

    Resubmit and audit

Post the corrected SPRG record and review other students mapped to the same local academy.
