Follow the evidence from school designation to student service
School Title I model
- Question
- Was the school operating a Targeted Assistance program for the reporting period?
- Evidence owner
- Federal-programs office and certified CARS information
Student participation
- Question
- Was this student formally identified and served through that program?
- Evidence owner
- Approved participant roster and school program records
Education service
- Question
- Which current CALPADS service code accurately represents the documented service?
- Evidence owner
- Program staff, source system, and current code set
Recommended correction path
- 1
Preserve the rejected SPRG row
Save the submission ID, SSID, school, membership dates, Program 122 value, blank service field, and the corresponding source-system record.
- 2
Confirm the school’s Title I operating model
Ask the authorized federal-programs owner to verify the school’s reporting-period designation using certified CARS and local program documentation. Do not infer Targeted Assistance status from the school name, prior-year status, funding level, or student characteristics.
- 3
Confirm the student’s documented participation
Match the student to the approved participant roster and effective dates. Program 122 must represent actual, supported participation; poverty, low achievement, disability, language status, or attendance at a Title I school does not by itself establish a student-level Targeted Assistance record.
- 4
Choose the correct correction lane
If Program 122 is unsupported, correct the Education Program Code or remove the unsupported SPRG record through the authorized workflow. If Program 122 is supported, continue to the documented service.
- 5
Identify the service actually provided
Review the student’s program plan, service log, intervention record, or other authoritative evidence. Select the current Education Service Code that accurately represents that service. Do not select a convenient code merely because the field is required.
- 6
Reconcile program dates and school context
Confirm the Reporting LEA, school, membership start and end dates, and service evidence describe the same period of participation. Resolve conflicting dates with the program owner before changing CALPADS.
- 7
Correct the authoritative source workflow
Update the SIS, program-management system, or controlled crosswalk that produced the missing value. Repair the extract rule so subsequent SPRG submissions retain the supported Education Service Code.
- 8
Reprocess and verify
Submit a small corrected record, confirm that it posts under the intended student and program period, and review other Program 122 records generated by the same school, default, or mapping.
Before closing the correction
- Confirm the school operated a Targeted Assistance program during the reported period.
- Confirm the student’s Program 122 participation is documented.
- Confirm the Education Service Code represents a service actually provided.
- Confirm school and membership dates align with the evidence.
- Review other Program 122 records produced by the same workflow.
