Recommended correction path

  1. 1

    Confirm the student’s attendance context

Review all enrollments, programs, school settings, and the portion of the year for which attendance was collected. Determine whether the student qualifies for exemption under current CALPADS guidance.

  2. 2

    Validate Field 13.13

Confirm the complete meaning of 13.13 Student Absence Summary Data Collection Exemption Indicator and whether Y, N, or blank is appropriate for this student and year.

  3. 3

    Reconcile the dependent fields

If the student is not exempt, populate the required STAS summary fields from reconciled attendance history. If exempt, leave the prohibited attendance-summary fields null—including Attendance Recovery Days when applicable.

  4. 4

Correct source rules, not one row

Update the SIS exemption rule, student program coding, attendance configuration, or extract option that generated the contradictory combination.

  5. 5

    Verify the population

Post the corrected record, review Report 14.2, and identify other students assigned the same exemption rule so the decision is applied consistently and defensibly.

Before closing the ticket

  • Confirm the corrected STAS record and student totals directly in CALPADS.
  • Compare CALPADS Report 14.2 with the local attendance-history source.
  • Document whether the defect was student-specific, calendar-wide, code-mapping, configuration, or extract-related.
  • Check other students affected by the same attendance rule before EOY 1 certification.
