FRMT0001: Wrong field length
CALPADS rejected the SCTE row because at least one submitted value exceeds the maximum length allowed by the current CALPADS File Specifications.
Official CALPADS rule
Severity: Fatal Type: Input Validation
Fields validated: All SCTE fields: 11.01 Record Type Code; 11.02 Transaction Type Code; 11.03 Local Record ID; 11.04 Reporting LEA; 11.05 School of Attendance; 11.06 Academic Year ID; 11.07 SSID; 11.08 Local Student ID; 11.09 Student Legal First Name; 11.10 Student Legal Last Name; 11.11 Student Birth Date; 11.12 Student Gender Code; 11.13 CTE Pathway Code; 11.14 CTE Pathway Completion Academic Year ID.
The current CFS defines the maximum length for every SCTE field. One or more values in the uploaded row exceeds that definition.
Recommended correction path
- 1
Preserve the rejected evidence
Download or record the submission ID, row number, error details, file name, creation time, and the exact SCTE row. Keep an untouched copy so later corrections remain auditable.
- 2
Compare the row with the current SCTE layout
Use the current-year CALPADS File Specifications—not a prior-year template—to align fields 11.01 through 11.14 and identify the field whose submitted length exceeds its limit.
- 3
Check for a shifted or malformed extract
Inspect delimiters, embedded line breaks, quotation marks, leading/trailing spaces, character encoding, and concatenated values. A field that appears too long may actually contain data shifted from an adjacent column.
- 4
Correct the authoritative source or mapping
If the SIS value is wrong, correct it there. If the value is valid but the extract is malformed, correct the vendor configuration or local transformation. Do not truncate legal names, SSIDs, CDS codes, or pathway values merely to make the file post.
- 5
Regenerate a scoped file and verify
Create a new SCTE extract, compare the corrected row field-by-field with the CFS, upload it, and confirm the row posts without creating a new validation. Check other rows from the same source field for the same mapping defect.
Where this correction sits in the 2026–27 calendar
Dates are from the current CDE CALPADS 2026–27 calendar. Verify the official calendar before acting because dates can change.
Before closing the ticket
- Confirm the correction in CALPADS, not only in the SIS preview.
- Document whether the defect was student-specific, configuration-wide, or vendor-generated.
- Run the same check across the remaining SCTE extract when the mapping affects multiple students.
