Submit the June 1 Financial Projection (Third Interim)

An implementation guide for districts with a qualified or negative second interim to report actuals through April 30 and project June 30 fund and cash balances by June 1.

  • Fiscal & Budget
  • Governance & Board Approval
Date(s)June 1, 2027 — required only when the second interim certification is qualified or negative (or changed to qualified/negative by the county)
Applies toSchool districts with a qualified or negative second interim certification

In Plain Language: If the second interim was certified qualified or negative, the district must send the county office a financial statement through April 30 that projects the June 30 fund balance and cash balance. It is due June 1, while the district is also adopting next year's budget.

Why this matters

The June 1 projection tells the county whether the district will end the year solvent and whether cash will last into July. A missing or unrealistic projection increases county intervention and can affect the county's review of the next budget.

Joint ownership

District: chief business official and budget/accounting staff prepare; the superintendent and board are informed. County office: reviews the projection with the adopted budget.

From April 30 actuals to a June 1 projection: the SDLA ITO workflow

The June 1 projection is a focused solvency check for districts already under heightened review. This SDLA ITO (Input, Transformation, Output) graphic shows how the inputs become the outputs in 9 steps.

SDLA ITO: 9 steps. Input: confirm the trigger; pull April 30 actuals; collect county format. Transformation: project June 30 balances; project monthly cash; explain variances. Output: june 1 projection; cash-risk summary; inputs for budget adoption.
Read down each column, then move to the next: Input identifies what to collect; Transformation covers project June 30 balances; project monthly cash; explain variances; Output delivers june 1 projection; cash-risk summary; inputs for budget adoption. Due June 1, 2027, only after a qualified or negative second interim.
