Distribute the Annual Emergency Anti-Seizure Medication Volunteer Notice to All Staff

A staffwide notice that explains voluntary participation, training, protections, and the student-safety purpose without disclosing individual pupil health information.

  • Health
  • Seizure Safety
  • Annual Notice
Date(s)Annually to all staff; repeat or supplement when program procedures or contact information materially change
Applies toCalifornia school districts, county offices of education, and charter schools under the Seizure Safe Schools Act

In Plain Language: Each year, tell all staff about the opportunity to volunteer for training to administer emergency anti-seizure medication, describe the training, explain that volunteering is voluntary, and provide the required statutory information and contact route.

Why this matters

The notice builds a safe responder pool. It is not permission to circulate names, diagnoses, medications, or seizure action plans to all employees.

Joint ownership

Notice owner: district health services. Clinical owner: school nurse/qualified trainer. Partners: HR, administrators, communications, privacy/records staff, and bargaining/employee-relations staff as applicable.

Operational workflow

  1. 1. Update the notice to current law, training standards, volunteer protections, program contact, and local process.
  2. 2. Distribute to every employee through a trackable channel without coercive language.
  3. 3. Receive volunteer interest privately; screen role/coverage needs and route candidates to the qualified trainer.
  4. 4. Keep the general notice separate from pupil-specific seizure action plans and medication records.
  5. 5. Track delivery, questions, volunteers, declined participation, and coverage gaps without retaliation.

What the notice should accomplish

  • Explain the emergency need and volunteer role.
  • Describe initial and annual refresher training.
  • State that participation is voluntary and identify statutory protections/limitations.
  • Tell staff exactly how to volunteer or ask questions.

Evidence to retain

  • Approved annual notice and statutory crosswalk
  • All-staff distribution roster/evidence
  • Volunteer-interest and training referral log
  • Privacy review and pupil-plan distribution controls
  • Coverage assessment and follow-up
