Set the Regular Meeting Schedule and Post Brown Act Agendas
An implementation guide for establishing the board's regular meeting time and place and posting compliant agendas 72 hours before each regular meeting, in person and on the website.
In Plain Language: Under the Brown Act, the board must set the time and place of its regular meetings by bylaws, resolution, or similar action. For each regular meeting it must post an agenda describing every item at least 72 hours in advance, both in a location accessible to the public and prominently on the website homepage. Special meetings need 24 hours' notice.
Why this matters
Actions taken on items that were not properly noticed can be challenged and voided. Posting errors are among the most frequent Brown Act complaints.
Joint ownership
District: superintendent's office and board clerk prepare and post agendas; the web team maintains the homepage link. Board: adopts the meeting schedule.
From a meeting calendar to compliant, posted agendas: the SDLA ITO workflow
