School Data Leadership Association

Privacy Policy

How we handle information about our members, contributors, and website visitors.

Effective date: October 22, 2026

The School Data Leadership Association (“SDLA,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. Protecting personal information supports our mission to promote the effective, efficient, and confidential use of data to improve teaching, learning, and school administration.

This policy explains how we collect, use, and disclose personal information through SchoolDataLeadership.org, membership accounts, newsletters, correspondence, surveys, and contribution features.

Adults only: You must be at least 18 years old to use our website or create an SDLA account.

1. Information we collect

The information we receive depends on how you interact with SDLA:

  • Registration and profile information: Information you provide when creating or maintaining an account, including your contact, account, and professional information.
  • Correspondence and submissions: Information you provide through email, contact forms, surveys, district or product updates, and contributions.
  • Website activity: Technical and usage information collected through website operations and analytics, such as IP addresses, browser or device information, pages visited, and access times.
  • Email engagement: Information about newsletter delivery, email opens, and link clicks.

Registration and member-profile information is not made public. Information intentionally submitted for publication is addressed separately below.

Please provide only the information needed for your interaction with SDLA. Do not submit identifiable student records, passwords, or other confidential information through ordinary email, contact forms, comments, or contributions.

2. How we use information

We use information to:

  • Create and administer membership accounts and related services.
  • Respond to questions, requests, corrections, and feedback.
  • Review contributions and maintain our educational, district, and product resources.
  • Send association newsletters, updates, and necessary account communications.
  • Understand website and email engagement and improve our resources.
  • Operate and protect the website, investigate misuse, and meet applicable legal obligations.

3. Newsletters and email

Registering for an SDLA account also subscribes you to association newsletters and updates. We send email through AcyMailing, Mailchimp, or directly. Depending on the delivery method, these services process contact information and delivery and engagement records on our behalf.

We track email opens and link clicks to understand engagement and improve our communications.

You may unsubscribe from newsletters using the unsubscribe link in a newsletter or by contacting SDLA. Unsubscribing from newsletters does not close your website account. Necessary account and security messages may continue while your account remains active.

4. When we disclose information

SDLA does not sell or rent member information or provide it to vendors, sponsors, or other organizations for their independent marketing.

Providers supporting website hosting, security, analytics, email delivery, and related operations may process information as needed to perform those services. Authorized SDLA personnel and volunteers may access information needed to carry out their responsibilities.

We may also disclose information at your direction, as required by law, or when reasonably necessary to investigate misuse, address security threats, or protect people and SDLA’s rights.

5. Public contributions

Information you intentionally submit for publication, such as an article, author biography, comment, or resource contribution, may be visible to the public. Public information can be copied, indexed by search engines, and used by others.

District and product information submitted to SDLA may be used to update our public resources. Private registration and profile information is not made public as part of those updates.

Consider carefully what you include in a public contribution. Contact us if published material contains inaccurate or inappropriate personal information.

6. Cookies, analytics, and embedded content

SDLA does not use advertisers.

Our website uses cookies and analytics to support website operation and understand how visitors use our resources. Cookies can support functions such as maintaining sign-in sessions and remembering preferences.

You can manage or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking cookies may affect sign-in and other website functions.

Embedded videos and other external features may allow their providers to receive technical information about your visit and use their own cookies or similar technologies. Those providers’ privacy policies describe their practices.

7. Account retention and deletion

We retain registration and profile information while you remain an active user. When you request account closure, we delete your account immediately and remove you from our AcyMailing and Mailchimp mailing lists.

Unsubscribing from a newsletter alone does not delete your website account. Please specify whether you want to stop newsletters, close your account, or both.

Account deletion does not by itself remove separately published contributions. Contact us to discuss personal information in published material or to ask about other records associated with your interactions with SDLA.

8. Your choices and requests

You may contact SDLA to ask about personal information we maintain, request a correction, stop optional communications, or close your account. We may need to verify your identity before releasing information or acting on an account request.

Please describe your request and provide enough information for us to locate the relevant account or record. Do not send passwords or confidential student information.

9. Security

We take reasonable precautions to protect personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and loss. No website, email service, or electronic storage system can guarantee complete security.

Protect your account credentials and contact us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access to your SDLA account.

10. Age requirement and student information

Our website and membership services are intended for adults age 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from people under 18 through membership registration.

SDLA’s educational resources do not authorize users to submit confidential student records. If you believe a minor’s personal information or confidential student information has been submitted, contact us so we can investigate and address it.

11. External websites

Our website links to district websites, vendors, professional associations, and other external resources. Those organizations control their own privacy practices. Review their policies before providing personal information.

12. Changes to this policy

We will update the effective date when this policy changes. We will announce significant changes through a prominent website notice or direct communication, as appropriate.

Our Terms of Service provide additional information about using the website and submitting content.
