Position Description
Under the direction of the appropriate district administrator, the Student Assessment Data Specialist prepares, validates, reconciles, protects, analyzes, and distributes data supporting state and local student assessment programs.
The specialist works at the record level across the student information system, assessment platforms, secure data files, reporting tools, and local data environments. The position verifies roster and demographic accuracy, supports testing assignments and accessibility settings, monitors completion, investigates discrepancies, processes score files, and produces documented reports for authorized users.
This role is distinguished from the Assessment Coordinator by its primary emphasis on technical data production, quality control, repeatable analysis, and user support rather than districtwide program authority. The specialist escalates policy, security, accommodation, and interpretive decisions to the responsible administrator while supplying clear evidence for resolution.

Required Education and Credentials
Required
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, educational administration, assessment, research, statistics, data science, information systems, public administration, or a closely related field. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted where permitted by district policy.
- Successful completion of all district-required employment clearances.
- Completion of district-required assessment-security, student-privacy, accessibility, and information-security training within established timelines.
Preferred
- Graduate degree or advanced coursework in educational measurement, statistics, research, educational leadership, data science, or a related field.
- Current California administrative services or teaching credential when required by the district’s classification and assigned supervisory or instructional responsibilities.
- Relevant certification or professional learning in assessment administration, project management, data analytics, accessibility, or data governance.

- Two or more years of progressively responsible experience with student information, assessment data, educational reporting, database support, research data, or a closely related function.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assessment Data Preparation and Roster Quality
- Prepare and validate student registration, roster, grade, course, school, demographic, program, and testing-eligibility data for assigned assessment systems.
- Compare assessment-platform records with authoritative SIS and program sources; identify missing, duplicate, stale, unmatched, or inconsistent records.
- Coordinate corrections with authorized source-system owners and verify that approved changes propagate successfully.
- Support assignment and validation of tests, domains, testing modes, accessibility resources, and other approved settings under established procedures.
- Maintain pre-administration quality reports, exception queues, issue logs, record counts, and evidence of resolution.
Testing Operations Data Support
