Use this as a professional-learning companion. It does not replace the complete CSTP, California content standards and frameworks, local policy, collective bargaining agreements, credential requirements, legal advice, or the individualized requirements in a student’s IEP or Section 504 plan.
What Effective Practice Looks Like
- Unpack standards and frameworks into concepts, practices, vocabulary, progressions, and valid evidence of understanding.
- Identify the discipline’s organizing ideas, common misconceptions, authentic practices, and culturally diverse contributions.
- Sequence examples, representations, texts, problems, investigations, and tasks from connection and modeling toward independence and transfer.
- Teach the reading, writing, speaking, reasoning, and tool-use practices particular to the subject.
- Adapt access—not the intended rigor—using UDL, language supports, accommodations, assistive technology, and targeted prerequisite teaching.

Evidence caution: No single artifact proves accomplished teaching. Interpret evidence in context, center student learning, use multiple sources, and avoid collecting identifiable student information that is not necessary.
