The California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) is California's statewide student-level education data system. District and county-office staff submit and certify enrollment, program, course, discipline, staff-assignment, and other required records. These data support state and federal reporting, funding calculations, and accountability measures.
Local student, program, course, and staff information becomes a statewide reporting record through submission and certification. District program owners and data staff coordinate corrections and confirm the reported population. Local operational history and a certified reporting snapshot can differ as records are corrected. Submission dates and reporting definitions explain which version is represented in a state result.
Reporting involves reconciliation and review as well as file transmission. District teams coordinate definitions, corrections, approval, and certification so the submitted population reflects the intended period. The important relationship runs both ways: state validation or reporting questions can require changes to local records and renewed coordination among the departments that originally supplied them.

- Fall 1 data (student demographics, programs, grade levels, and school enrollment and exit) are certified in mid-December, but Fall 1 data are collected, verified, and reported to CALPADS throughout the school year. The certified data is a snapshot that captures all active enrollments on Count Day (first Wednesday in October). This certified snapshot is the basis for the school year’s official student enrollment, demographic and program information counts and rates.
- Fall 2 data (student course enrollments, teacher assignments and English Learner education services) are collected, verified, and reported to CALPADS, and certified in February. The certified Fall 2 data snapshot captures this information for students and certificated staff active on Count Day.
- End-of-Year data (course completion for grades 7–12, CTE participation, program participation, student discipline, and CAHSEE waivers) are collected, verified, reported to CALPADS, and certified in July.
