Does your district block SKYPE for staff members? I'm curious because CSIS is now using it to administer some training sessions. This is great, since it removes the cap of users that can view a training session at one time. Getting a sense of how many districts block SKYPE for staff (and maybe reconsidering why) is the purpose of this poll: SKYPE POLL Note: You have to be logged in to vote in the poll. As always, membership is free!

Dear LEA Representatives, The February 23 CALPADS Fall 2 certification deadline has been suspended. The final Fall 2 certification deadline (the close of the amendment window) remains March 23. It is important for local educational agencies (LEAs) to certify their Fall 2 data submission on or before March 23, 2018 in order to report their official staff full-time equivalent (FTE), English learner (EL) services, and student course enrollment data. Because there will be no February 23 deadline, no letters will be sent to superintendents of local educational agencies (LEAs) that do not certify by February 23. LEAs with certification errors should continue to resolve errors as soon as poss...
Modern Network Segmentation and Access Control Legacy network design techniques in education often used segmentation of networks at the core switch or even a router to control access between networks of differing security levels. Managing these access lists was time consuming and relatively primitive. One could only enforce the most rudimentary (at best L4 – address and port) traffic rules. This often resulted in allowing access to resources that user groups should not have – especially in shared computer environments. The early firewalls capable of application awareness (L7) were not fast enough to sit between segments of a LAN – in spite of their capabilities to identity traffic in advance...
Several tech news outlets are reporting this morning on the discovery of a new vulnerability that basically destroys WPA2 as a security protocol. The exploits, which are explained in detail on the KrackAttacks.com website, use a weakness to read information assumed to be safely encrypted. The most troubling aspect of this attack, in addition to it now being widely known, is how widespread the use of this security protocol is, and how many systems this will ultimately impact. Also, changing the passwords will have no effect (unless those passwords were so easy as to be hacked through traditional methods). But this newly discovered exploit can attack even the most comp...
