The 7th Annual District Systems Survey is now live! We've updated this year's survey to include all the systems mentioned in the responses from last year's survey. Our hope is that by collecting this information from both our "data" and "IT" communities we can create shareable resources to help district leaders. The survey should take no more than 5-10 minutes to complete.
#1 Board Management
Allows districts to manage their School Board agendas and public dissemination of materials pursuant to the Brown Act.
#2 Campus Safety
Includes any system dedicated to securing the campus (e.g. surveillance video, alarm systems, etc.)
#3 Client Management / SSO
Systems allow students and staff to login easily to various systems using a common sign on.
#4 Data Analysis / Metrics
Enterprise systems that allow the collection, storage, and reporting of student test results and/or other data points related to the success of the organization.
#5 Data Integration / Warehouse
Allow for major ETL processes to occur between systems.
#6 Family Notification / Messaging Systems
Allow teachers and administrators to quickly make out-bound telephone calls, send SMS messages, and/or emails to any student or parent subgroup. Used for emergency reverse 911 as well as routine parent/teacher communications.
#7 Financial Systems
These are systems that handle payroll, budgeting, financials, benefits, etc.
#8 Food Service / MEAL POS
Allow parents and students to pay for breakfast/lunch online and/or act as Point-of-Sales systems.
#9 Help Desk / Ticketing Systems
Facilitate end-user support tickets via emall, web, text and/or phone.
#10 Human Resource Systems
These are systems that handle staff tracking, evaluation, etc.
#12 Learning Management Systems (LMS)
Manage the administration, registration, security, delivery and reporting of electronic educational technology (e.g. e-learning) courses or learning modules.
#13 Managed File Transfer
Allow districts to send confidential emails with data that requires FERPA protection.
#14 Special Education / IEP
Allow districts to track and manage the Individual Education Plans for students with special needs.
#15 Student Assessment Systems
Allow for the creation, dissemination and evaluation of student achievement through formative and/or summative assessments either online or via paper/pencil.
#16 Student Registration Systems
Allow parents to update student information and complete forms online.
#17 Student Information Systems
Used to track student and some staff records, course information, student schedules, attendance, and state reporting requirements.
#18 Substitute Management Systems
Permit districts to manage the hiring and deployment of substitute teachers.
#19 Web Portals / CMS
Serve as the main public forum and website for the school district.
#20 Athletics / Team Management
Schedule after-school teams, review student eligibility, schedule meets, etc.
#21 Behavior / Discipline Systems
Assist administrators in encouraging positive student behavior and in documenting incidents related to expulsions or suspensions.
#22 College / Career Planning
Create pathways to college applications, manage transcripts, or provide career guidance.
#23 Data Security / Monitoring
Maintain backups of sensitive data, provide additional security measures, and also provide real-time monitoring of attacks, etc.
#24 Device Management
Allow for the configuration and management of mobile devices such as tablets, Chromebooks, laptops, etc.
#25 Document Management Systems
Provide districts with the ability to scan and digitize print documents for permanent storage and retrieval.
#26 General Productivity Apps
This is a catch-all category for smaller systems that don't really fit into their own category.
#27 Health Management
Comprehensive records management systems, either electronic or paper-based, for student health and safety information.
#28 Library / Textbook Management
Allow schools to track library books and textbooks and to require students to reimburse schools when items are lost.
#29 Professional Development
Helps manage your PD offerings, both classroom-based and online webinars. Features may include online registrations, calendaring, payments, print participant name badges, course evaluations and reporting.
#30 Transportation System
Software designed to help school districts plan bus routes, maintain their fleet vehicles, schedules, inclement weather planning, field trip planning, bus driver dispatch, security video monitoring, etc. Also includes systems to manage parking permits for faculty and students.
#31 Volunteer Management
Helps school adminstrators organize the efforts of parent and community volunteers. Organize meetings, get-togethers, pot-lucks, events, beach clean-ups, etc.
#32 System Deployment (Imaging)
Allow schools to create a set of master disk setups and clone them for multiple laptops or chromebooks. Also known as disk cloning.
